FINE SHERATON SIDE CHAIR W HEART SHAPED BACK

This is an outstanding Sheraton side chair with a unique inverted heart shaped back, replaced natural rush seat note, we did go to the expense of putting a true natural rush seat in this special chair . Nixed woods with mahogany stain and waxed finish. Measures 34 inches high, 17 inches at the seat. This chair would be best picked up in the Richmond area, but I believe it can ship via UPS in a maximum size box. Buyer pays shipping costs including cost of box. Virginia buyer pays 5 sales tax.

This American Majolica plate was manufactured around 1870 by the Chesapeake Pottery-D.F. Haynes and Son Company of Baltimore, Maryland. This plate features the blackberry pattern on a cream background. The eight inch plate is in good condition with minor surface wear consistent with it's age. There has been a professional repair to a small chip on the back rim. Virginia buys to pay 5 sales tax. Buyer pays shipping.

HUGE APPALACHIAN FEATHER BASKET WITH LID

This is a large 21 inches high by 15 inches diameter covered feather basket handmade from oak splints from a Washington County, Virginia, family estate - probably made in the surrounding area. Southwest Virginia, as with most of Appalachia is well known for the quality of their baskets. The basket is tightly woven, has two handles, and is very sturdy. The top is a separate woven piece, also beautifully done, attached with twine recent . It has seen lots of use, but has no breaks or repairs. Baskets like this were used to collect feathers for use in pillows and mattress ticks. This basket was painted white maybe 20 to 30 years ago in my opinion , the paint shows some wear and oxidation, but is not as old as the basket. You just do not find good older baskets of this size, quality, and in this condition very often. Buyer pays shipping. Virginia buyer pays 5 sales tax.

19TH CENTURY SHENANDOAH VALLY WOVEN BACK ROCKING CHAIR

This is a great old porch rocker from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It dates back to the mid-19th century and retains its original splint seat and back. It stands 42 inches at its back and is in good solid condition. There are a couple of broken splints in the seat, but the seat remains firm. I bought this chair from a Valley dealer who told me it was a classic quot;Yoder quot; rocking chair, especially due to the unique weaving of the chairs back and the back post turnings. Other Valley chair makers are known to have used this same weaving technique. This rocker is too large to be shipped through the normal channels, so it will require freight, which the Buyer must arrange and pay for. Local pickup is a good option and its free . Delivery throughout most of Virginia and much of North Carolina can br arranged for a nominal fee this would include a delay because it would be within the range of our normal travels - ask . Virginia buyer pays 5 sales tax

HUGE SOUTHWEST AMERICAN INDIAN COIL BASKET, 1920'S

This basket was reportedly by family tradition collected by a Richmond, Virginia, couple on a trip in the late 1920's. It stands a full 15 inches tall and is 20 inches in diameter. It is very tightly woven in a coil construction. It is in very good condition with no breaks, but slightly out of round. A nice Navajo lady suggested that she could wet it down and pull it back into shape. Sounded risky to us so we passed. Buyer pays shipping.

The photos tell the story for this 8 inch plate. Crisp mold, bright colors, and excellent condition. Marked in India Ink on a small unglazed spot on the plate bottom. The meanings of these marks are not known but they are typical of Jones, and I have owned examples of this plate with the factory mark. This plate was part of a strawberry serving set that included the large 1873 serving dish pictured on page 53 of Robert Cluett's GEORGE JONES CERAMICS 1861 - 1951.
