Audubon Print by J. Smit

This bird lithograph is entitled Ceyx Angentata. This is by J. Smit and is signed. Joseph Smit (1836-1929) was born in the Netherlands. Hewas invited to Britain by Philip Sclater in 1866 and did the lithography for Sclater's Exotic Ornithology. He also did the lithography for Joseph Wolf's Zoological Sketches (second series), as well as Daniel Elliott's monographs on the Phasianeidae and Paradiseida. Smit contributed regularly to the Transactions and the Proceedings of the Zoological Society, Ibis, and The Field. Beginning in the 1870s, he worked on the massive Catalogue of Birds in the Museum, and later on the Lord Lilford's Coloured Figures of the Birds in the British Museum. Considered . . . the best animal painter in England after the death of J. Wolf-- S. Peter Dance. The bottom will show M & N Hanbart Imp. on the right bottom with J.Smit.lith on the left bottom. At the top right, the plate is numbered, P.Z.S. 1878 PL VI. The print is in a matted folder with a tissue insert. The size with the mat is 13 3/4 X 9 3/4 in. and the size of the print is approximately 8 1/8 X 5 1/2 in. This is a historical print of birds and dates around 1900. There is some yellowing, but no spots are apparent. This is one of several prints listed by this artist.

J Edgar Hoover Christmas Greeting

From J Edgar Hoover and the FBI is a Christmas letter which is mechanically signed. It dates pre 1960. It is on parchment paper and is approximately 7 X 9 in. The colored area shows the wreath on the FBI headquarters building. There is some yellowing to the paper. It also has the copy of the FBI seal at the bottom.

Silent Butler-Brass and Figural Enamel

Marked with the incised old China mark, this wonderful brass silent butler has enameled designs on the lid and the handle. The silent butler is 4 1/2 X 4 in. and is 6 3/4 in. long with the handle. It is hinged and dates from the 1920s. The enameling is quite detailed and has great coloring. It is in excellent condition.

Vintage Cocktail Napkins

These dainty napkins make up a set which includes one doily which is 14 X 8 1/2 in. without the fringe, two napkins which are 5 1/4 in X 5 in without the fringe, and the remaining two napkins are 6 1/4 in X 7 1/2 in without the fringe. The fabric has an overall jacquard pattern. The self fabric fringe is about an inch in length. These date from the mid 1940s. There is no damage to the pieces. They are also a great size for a childs tea party.
